About Us

Established in 1978, Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services, Inc. (Springfield NHS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that transforms families and revitalizes distressed neighborhoods through sustainable homeownership, housing development and rehabilitation of distressed properties and resident empowerment.

Springfield Neighborhood Housing Services is a member of the national NeighborWorks® America network, Campaign for Homeownership and the NeighborWorks® America Homeownership Center Full-Cycle Lending Program. In addition, the Community Development Financial Institutions Fund of the United States Department of the Treasury certified Springfield NHS as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) as a result of meeting its community development goals.

The Homeownership Center of Springfield NHS provides a full array of mortgage products for all income ranges for homebuyers anywhere in Massachusetts or the Pioneer Valley. Our products include purchase, refinance or rehabilitation mortgages. Springfield NHS has helped hundreds of families overcome obstacles to owning a home by providing group education and one-on-one pre-purchase and post-purchase counseling through a comprehensive approach which develops stronger, more "default-resistant buyers."

Springfield NHS' development entity has produced an aggressive stabilization strategy to revitalize targeted neighborhoods through new construction of homes on vacant land and the rehabilitation of blighted properties over the next five years. This neighborhood stabilization project is part of a collaborative effort to combat blight and revitalize the Old Hill neighborhood.
